Mangoes

ORIGIN

You love mangoes? Did you know that they are grown in so many different parts of the world, including Middle America, Latin America, US, Africa and Australia? But, the fruit’s original home is India! It was first grown in southern Asia, specifically in eastern India, Bangladesh, and the Andaman Islands. Mango is actually the national fruit of India and the national tree of Bangladesh – so, it’s a pretty big deal over there!

The harvest of mangoes is a much-anticipated event in India, taking place from March till May and often covered in the media.

Fun fact: Ambika, a Goddess of the Indian religion Janisam, is often presented as sitting under the mango tree. Mango is also a significant part of Indian culture, with the fruit’s leaves being used as door decorations during weddings and other national celebrations.
